The characteristics of Cr12MoV cold working die steel are as follows:
High Hardness and Wear Resistance
Cr12MoV achieves a hardness of up to 60-62 HRC, enabling it to withstand high-intensity stamping, cutting, die-casting, and other heavy-duty operations. Its wear resistance surpasses that of conventional Cr12 steel, making it ideal for manufacturing molds with stringent wear requirements, such as punching dies, trimming dies, and wire drawing dies.
Excellent Thermal Stability and Corrosion Resistance
This material has a heat softening temperature of approximately 520°C and exhibits minimal deformation or corrosion during prolonged use in high-temperature, high-humidity environments. Its corrosion resistance allows it to withstand common corrosive media, including water, air, acids, and alkalis, thereby extending mold service life.
Superior Hardenability and Dimensional Stability
Cr12MoV can be fully hardened across sections ranging from 300-400 mm, ensuring uniform hardness after quenching. It demonstrates exceptional dimensional stability, maintaining high rigidity even under elevated temperatures, making it suitable for hot working dies and precision component manufacturing.
High Toughness and Deformation Resistance
Compared to Cr12 steel, Cr12MoV exhibits significantly improved toughness, with minimal volume changes during quenching and strong resistance to deformation. This enables it to endure substantial impact loads, making it well-suited for molds with complex shapes and larger cross-sections, such as deep drawing dies and cold extrusion dies.
Ease of Machining and Heat Treatment Responsiveness
The material is easy to cut, grind, and polish, facilitating the production of high-precision molds. Through appropriate heat treatment (e.g., quenching at 950-1050°C and tempering at 150-550°C), its hardness and toughness can be flexibly adjusted to meet diverse application requirements.
