Cr12 cold working die steel flat is a typical high-carbon, high-chromium ledeburite steel.
1. High Hardness and Wear Resistance
Composition Support: With a carbon content of 2.00%-2.35% and chromium content of 11.0%-13.5%, it forms a large amount of high-hardness carbides (e.g., Cr₇C₃), providing excellent wear resistance.
Performance in Applications: In high-abrasion scenarios such as cold stamping dies and wire drawing dies, its wear resistance significantly surpasses that of ordinary carbon tool steels (e.g., T10A), extending service life by 3-5 times.
Data Evidence: After heat treatment, its hardness can reach 60-64 HRC, meeting the demands of high-precision cold working.
2. Excellent Hardenability
Process Characteristics: Its ledeburite structure enables the formation of uniform martensite during quenching, ensuring complete hardening even for larger cross-sections (e.g., thickness >30 mm).
Comparative Advantage: Compared to steels with low hardenability (e.g., 9SiCr), Cr12 reduces the risk of quenching deformation, making it suitable for manufacturing molds with complex shapes.
3. Minimal Deformation Characteristics
Heat Treatment Stability: After vacuum heat treatment, the surface is bright with no decarburized layer, and dimensional deformation is <0.05%, meeting the requirements for precision mold manufacturing.
Case Application: When used for manufacturing stamping dies for electronic components, it avoids mold scrap caused by heat treatment deformation.
4. High Compressive Strength
Mechanical Properties: Its compressive strength reaches 2500-3000 MPa, far exceeding that of ordinary alloy steels (e.g., 800-1000 MPa for 40Cr), making it suitable for cold extrusion dies subjected to high impact loads.
